U2: 'Radiohead's 'In Rainbows' Honesty Box Backfired'

Paul McGuinness, the manager of U2, says that the honesty box format that Radiohead used to release their latest album 'In Rainbows' wasn't entirely successful.

McGuinness said that the band's decision to allow people to pay what they wanted for the album last October had “to some extent backfired.”

"Even though it was available on their own website for no money at all, if that was what you preferred to pay - 60 to 70 per cent of the people who downloaded the record stole it anyway even though it was available for free,” he said.

U2 are currently recording their new studio album, but, speaking to BBC 6Music, McGuinness said that they had no plans to follow Radiohead's example.

"There will be events around the release of the album but for U2 physical sales are still an enormous part of our business and we still sell a lot of actual CDs.

"We will obviously work with whatever technology is available to make the release of the new record as interesting as possible,” McGuinness added.

U2's as-yet-untitled record is expected this October.

MICK HUCKNALL

“Tribute to Bobby” (Simplyred.com/Atco): B+

“Red Sings Blue” would have been a better title. But Hucknall has decided to put his past as leader of Simply Red in the past as he launches his solo career with this homage to blues great Bobby “Blue” Bland, endorsed by the man himself. Hucknall’s voice lacks the heft of Bland’s, but he turns this to his advantage: his versions of these soulful classics feel fresh and modern and avoid drifting into lightweight pop/r&b territory, a problem that plagued too much of his old band’s work. Fans of both Red and Blue will be intrigued - and impressed. Download: “Ain’t That Lovin’ You.”

Drew Barrymore In High Drama Car Chase

Drew Barrymore took some tips from her Charlie’s Angel role, and chased a reckless motorist around Los Angeles after he smashed into her car and sped off.

The ballsy actress was driving in West Hollywood just before 12pmon Monday when she was rear-ended, reports TMZ.

But instead of pulling over to exchange insurance details, the perpetrator made off, forcing brave Barrymore to take vigilante action.

She eventually lost track of the vehicle, but she did at least commit the offending car's licence plate number to memory, and pass on the information.

Police are reportedly investigating the incident, but no arrests had been made as of yet.

Despite this worry, the band persevered, drawing inspiration and encouragement from the success of some other local young grouping, the Deviates. 1208 triumphed with their possess opportunity to record, and the resultant was Feedback Is Playback.
